A Limit on the Contribution of Hot Halo Emission to the 0.75 Kev Diffuse X-ray Background from ROSAT Data
Abstract
We placed upper limits on the contribution of an external hot Galactic halo to the 0.5-1 keV diffuse X-ray background using shadows of molecular clouds associated with the Gould's Belt as observed by the ROSAT (ROentgenSATellit) all sky survey. To improve the sensitivity, we have subtracted the known contribution of AGN resolved by Chandra and ROSAT, which are responsible for much of the observed shadows. The remaining ROSAT flux can be divided into foreground and background components for the 500 pc distance of these clouds.
